Natural candles are more likely to have droplets of oil/moisture as they don’t have any additives or chemicals. The wax we use is soft and prone to temperature changes.

Please check that your candle hasn’t been stored in hot temperature or in direct sunlight.

At Sukh Living, we exclusively use sustainable, all-natural coconut wax. Our candles are vegan, cruelty-free, and use only pure, plant-based fragrances—never synthetic perfumes or phthalates.

We provide honest information about using scented products around animals. So the simple answer is NO. No wax or fragrance product is ever 100% safe around animals.

While our ingredients are plant-based and free from harsh synthetics, some essential oils can be irritating or toxic to certain pets (especially cats and birds). We have a dedicated, curated section on our website for Pet-Friendly Candles & Melts that features scents known to be safer for use around most household pets, provided proper ventilation is used.

My candle is “tunneling” (burning down the center while leaving hard wax on the sides). How can I fix this?2025-12-02T21:02:54+00:00

Tunneling usually happens if the first burn wasn’t long enough. Coconut wax has a memory. The key is ensuring the first time you light your candle, you let it burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted into a full liquid pool, reaching the edges of the jar. This might take 2-4 hours. If it has already started tunneling, you can gently use a spoon to scrape the edges down to level the wax before the next burn.

Why is my candle smoking, or the flame is too high?2025-12-02T21:03:01+00:00

This is almost always due to an untrimmed wick. The wick should be trimmed to 1/4 inch before every use. A long wick creates a larger flame and excessive smoke/soot. Use our Sukh Living wick trimmers for an easy solution.

Sometimes my wax melts lose their scent quickly. Am I doing something wrong?2025-12-02T21:03:08+00:00

Wax melts don’t “burn off” like a candle; they slowly diffuse the scent until the essential oils have fully evaporated from the wax base. Typically, you can get 8-12 hours of strong fragrance per cube, depending on your warmer’s heat intensity. Once you can no longer smell the fragrance, it’s time to replace the wax cube with a fresh one.

Absolutely! Our glass jars are designed to be easily cleaned and repurposed.
  • To clean: Once only about 1/2 inch of wax remains, place the jar in a warm water bath or freezer for 15 minutes. The remaining wax should pop right out. Wash the jar with hot, soapy water to remove any residue.
  • Reuse ideas: The jars are perfect for storing Q-tips, cotton pads, small desk supplies, spices, or even planting a small succulent!

Even though Sukh Living only uses pure, plant-based fragrances, “natural” does not always mean safe for pets, particularly cats, who lack a specific liver enzyme needed to metabolize certain compounds.
Our plant-based fragrances are not essential oils but more dilute. But some plant-based fragrances  might be enhanced with small quantities of essential oils. Therefore, it’s important to note which Essential oils to always avoid around both cats and dogs include:
  • Tea Tree (Melaleuca): Highly toxic and can cause severe illness or death.
  • Citrus Oils: (Limonene, e.g., Bergamot, Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit).
  • Peppermint & Eucalyptus: Can cause respiratory irritation and other symptoms.
  • Pine & Wintergreen: Contain compounds that can lead to severe issues like liver or kidney damage.
  • Cinnamon, Clove, & Ylang Ylang.
  • Pennyroyal & Sweet Birch.

  • Vomiting or diarrhea.

  • If you have birds: Birds have extremely sensitive respiratory systems, and veterinarians recommend avoiding all air diffusers and most scented products around them completely.
  • In small, enclosed spaces: Always ensure the area is well-ventilated, and the pet has the ability to easily leave the room and access fresh air.
  • If your pet is unsupervised: Never leave a lit candle unattended where a curious paw or wagging tail could knock it over, causing a fire or burn hazard.

Both methods pose a reduced fire hazard compared to an open flame if placed out of reach. The safety mostly comes down to the fragrance ingredients used and ventilation. The primary risk remains the essential oil composition and ensuring pets cannot ingest the wax or the warming oil itself. Always store all products securely out of reach.
